30 DAY CHALLENGE DAY 23 5-14 – The Importance of Being a Good Friend

First and foremost; quality > quantity. Don’t get it twisted. A good friend is better than a lot of friends, remember that.

If you really think about it, friends are our chosen family. We treat our closest friends like we do our family members, but we get to choose our friends. To me, a friendship should represent balance, where both people put in equal amounts of effort. But that effort shouldn’t be a force, it should just naturally flow. Being a good friend stems from being a good person, so get yourself in check for YOU before you try to be there for someone else. A true friendship resembles genuine behavior that comes from a place of love and care. Our friends are our people! How they’re doing should be something we care to know.

If you’re reading this and are questioning yourself, do some internal reflection and see which friendships are worth your time and which waste it. A real friend is someone who is gentle with you, yet tells you how it is, someone who pushes you to do better and be better without judgement, and someone who has your best interest at heart. These are the friends who will last a lifetime. These are the friends who pick up the phone no matter the time of day. These are the friends you will share a million memories with while looking forward to a million more. But above all else, in order to have a friend like this, you must be one first. The biggest part to a friendship, or any relationship for that matter, is that it’s reciprocal. You get what you give, but you do it out of kindness, not gain.

The friendships we develop in this lifetime become so near and dear to us, so reminding ourselves that it takes being a good friend to keep a good friend is so so important.
