The Nitty Gritty
Okay first and foremost, I hope you’re listening to The Skinny Confidential already for your own well-being. If you aren’t, start. Please, you won’t regret it. Obviously had to begin with my favorite podcast. Co-hosts Lauryn and Michael have known each other since age 14 and are now happily married with the newest addition to their family being their newborn, Zaza. These two just say it how it is and give you the tea without all the bullshit. Majority of their episodes feature a special guest who brings such an interesting dynamic to the show, stemming from doctors to celebrities to friends, they showcase it all, so you won’t want to miss an episode. Like for real you won’t. Although most of their weekly episodes include guest stars, don’t skip out on their solo episodes, those are some of the best. If you want real talk combined with a load of knowledge and useful information but somehow presented in such an entertaining way, start with TSC. They’re well over 200 episodes in so they deliver on quality, experience, and the latest tips and tricks. As an added bonus their producer Taylor brings a … well let’s just say … interesting vibe to the show. Listen and you’ll know what I mean. Start with episode 260 and you’ll see what they’re all about. Happy listening 😉
Next up, my YouTube gals. I already couldn’t get enough of their video content so of course when my favorite YouTubers launched podcasts I had to jump on the bandwagon. Starting Monday off with Tori DeSimone’s Manifest podcast just lights a fire under my ass to start my week off right. She’s real, she’s open, she’s a hard worker, and she brings light to every Monday morning. If you want to listen to someone who is established at such a young age, with so much ambition, but also humility, Tori is your girl. She keeps it real with herself and with all of us listeners, so her podcast is definitely a dope pick. Plus who isn’t looking for a way to make their Monday just a little bit better?
Gals on Go is just a feel-good listen when you’re getting ready in the morning type of podcast. I appreciate the duo vibe of the episode as Brooke and Danielle bounce off each other, making you feel like you’re having a conversation with your best friends. These girls are also unapologetically themselves, something I can get down with. Their episodes are light, fresh, and simply entertaining and enjoyable to listen to. If you wanna chill out with an upbeat background pod, gear up with Gals on the Go.
ILSYM with Kenzie Elizabeth is also produced by TSC’s same producer Taylor. Kenzie and Taylor really jive, so listening to Taylor’s involvement in this podcast is just as fun, but a bit more listener-friendly and appropriate (you’ll know what I mean once you listen). Under the Dear Media Podcast Network just like TSC, ILYSM often showcases different guests. Her podcast brings this feel-good energy that her guests add to, while bringing a unique vibe that offers up knowledge you didn’t have prior. Kenzie is just a pure soul and it shows through her audio. She cares about her audience, just as she does on YouTube, and having an additional platform where that good energy can be shared sheds light on her dedication and passion.
Happy Hour is probably not what you’re thinking, there’s no margaritas involved, but for me, this type of happy hour is better. Gretchen is the brightest light out there and her podcast is just another medium for her to share her positivity with the world. She’s down to earth, transparent, and simply herself. I appreciate her episodes as she’s just chatting with her listeners. There’s a connection there and you just feel like you can relate to everything she’s saying. There’s no front with her, she’s herself and makes it known that she too, is only human. If you want a big sister to look up to, get advice from, or just brighten up your Friday, Gretchen is your girl, so I would absolutely recommend giving her pod a listen.
Okay so now a shift in gears to Ed Mylett. He’s great, don’t get me wrong, but he definitely comes off very strong and gears his content toward a specific type of audience. I respect Ed and all his work. As a listener, I feel as though his message is always spot on, but sometimes his delivery is a little questionable for me. I believe he is fully genuine in his intention, but at times his delivery comes across as in-genuine, even though I don’t believe it to be. So yes, a weird dynamic, but don’t let that steer you away. As an individual he discusses the ins and outs of business, entrepreneurship, and life itself. When he hosts guests on his show, they too play to the entrepreneurial tone of his show and offer solid real-word perspectives on an array of topics. I think sometimes I am hesitant to listen just because of the lack of relatability as he is a grown man, husband and father, with tremendous success under his belt. Nonetheless, a number of his episodes have provided me with value, encouraged me, and sparked inspiration within me, which is why I would still recommend anyone to give his show a listen.
Last but not least, my honorable mention of Mood with Lauren Elizabeth. Nope, she’s not related to Kenzie, but they are real-life friends. I am only a handful of episodes in on this one, but Lauren is the definition of this is who I am, take it or leave it. She is herself and I admire that so much. She also doesn’t sugarcoat anything. She says it how it is, offers her real opinion, and discusses real life things like anxiety and stress and relationships and family and therapy. She’s human just like the rest of us and there’s definitely a sense of comfort knowing that although she’s in the public eye, she’s a normal human being with feelings and emotions and ambitions and life experience. She doesn’t hide anything, even if that means making herself vulnerable to her listeners. I have a deep respect for how she conducts herself and her platform and I am eager to hear more from her.
Let’s Recap
All in all, don’t knock a pod until you try one. Podcasts are my ish. I listen to them when I workout, drive, get ready, shower, walk outside, clean, etc. They are perfect for almost any mood and add to whatever you find yourself doing. I love a podcast that is real, authentic, and makes me smarter. There is so much to learn and an immense amount of knowledge to gain about literally everything, so I feel like podcasts get my wheels turning, make me more curious, enhance my knowledge in so many ways, and bring a sense of positive into my daily life. The thing is, you can listen to any podcast and learn something new, but without a connection between you and the host, you’ll lose interest. I strongly feel like these recommendations are rooted in how connected I feel to who is speaking and what is being said. Once you find that connection you’ll be hooked and the extra knowledge you gain just becomes the added bonus. 10/10 recommend a good podcast and hope you’re encouraged to start with these picks.
xx,
Kay
