30 DAY CHALLENGE DAY 8 4-29 – The Power of Writing Things Down

Have a thought? Want to do something? Need to get your life together? The answer to all of these questions is the same. Write. It. Down. Yes, it’s that simple.

There is so much power in writing things down it’s incredible. We all have a smartphone, we all have a notes app, we all have the ability to organize our lives, thoughts, and responsibilities. All we have to do is write it down. Now some of you may be partial to hand writing things, and that’s fine, but I really encourage everyone to play around with their notes app because that record is pretty much concrete and always readily available at your fingertips.

Here’s how I organize my notes. First I create folders. I have a folder for school, general notes, daily notes, and shared notes. You can go even further and more micro than this if you feel the need. Break things down as much as you need to in order to stay organized and keep yourself in line. In each folder I have notes for pretty much everything. From workouts, to my bucket list, to meal ideas, to school courses, to packing lists; I have it all and then some. Something that I would say that separates me from other avid note users is that if a note becomes obsolete I delete it to avoid clutter and disorganization. I also keep each note very structured so I don’t end up with 3,000 notes each with one random reminder. I edit and revise as I go, so my notes are always current and relevant to my life and my organizational facade.

My point here is that if you already write things down, great, but you can make it even better and more productive. And if you don’t write anything down and find yourself relying on your not-so-reliable memory, then take advantage of this pro tip. Use what you’ve got people and work smarter not harder. Give your brain capacity some room for free thinking and start writing things down. Keep a running list of positive thoughts. Use the cute little bullet points included in the iPhone notes app to keep a grocery list. Better yet, use the predetermined text settings to customize your titles and subheadings. Have fun with it and make these notes something you look forward to adding to and playing around with. Trust me, once you start writing things down you’ll find yourself questioning the extent to which you document, but it’s all worth it. There’s so much power in writing things down, so start taking advantage of doing so, it’s right at your fingertips!
